Sil Krol plays with the imagery and connotations of the public space, and positions his spatial works right at the centre of the public domain. His installations and monumental sculptures are temporary, spontaneous interventions encouraging an unconventional use of the space.
Furthermore, his work is a metaphor for the way in which we are manipulating our complex society, and our apparent estrangement from nature.
Kunsthal Light
‘Kunsthal Light’ is the Kunsthal’s talent development programme. Since 2011, this exhibition programme has been especially focusing on young artist who are capable of making 'a grand gesture' in an original and artistic way. Three times a year, the Kunsthal places HALL 6 (the over 25-meter-long display window along the ramp) at the disposal of an artist who is given free rein to make a site-specific work. In 2020, Kunsthal Light is also made possible by the Mondriaan Fund.
Sil Krol
Sil Krol (1986) graduated from the Academy of Art and Design St. Joost in Breda in 2006, and continued his education at the Sandberg Instituut in Amsterdam. In 2010, he immediately attracted attention with his controversial graduation project ‘White cube with Blue and Orange stripes’. After that he was offered a number of commissions, especially for the public space. Among other places, his work was shown at De Fabriek Eindhoven, W139, and Survival 17 in Poland. Since a number of years, his studio has been located at the Keilewerf incubator space in Rotterdam.
