He made his debut in 1916 as part of the Dada movement, going on to pursue a career as a painter, a designer of book covers and stage designs as well as a book illustrator, theoretician and director of the Academy/Artelor Decorative (similar to the Bauhaus) and the State Museum of Art in Bucharest. He contributes both images and texts to Romanian magazines such as Contimporanul, 75 HP, Punct, Integral and Unu, and takes part in various key exhibitions. His later work is constructivist and cubist in style.
