Hunger

In the exhibition, visitors can wander through nine intimate spaces that visualise the personal development iET is going through as a young mother. Despite the intense love iET feels for her daughter, becoming a parent proved difficult and lonely at first. She experienced this period as if she were trapped inside a bubble that was hard to get out of. These feelings of oppression resulted in the musical project Hunger, in which iET – in close collaboration with designer Rich Dust– candidly shows her vulnerability with respect to this often still emotionally charged subject. The exhibition symbolises iET’s home. The nine songs are her rooms, each representing an emotion or phase. Apart from featuring iET herself, the illustrated portraits  show various elements and precious objects from her home, such as plants, colourful stained-glass windows, musical instruments, and her daughter’s stuffed animals. Especially for the exhibition, writer Marianne Clason has converted iET’s music into poetic stories. While wandering through Hunger, the audience will hear and see – room by room – how iET rediscovered herself in her new role as mother, woman, partner, and musician. 

Performance

Every Sunday up to and including 4 September, iET will be joined by a number of her musicians and take part in the exhibition every Sunday between 13:00 and 16:00 hrs. Musician, film maker, and choreographer Davide Bellotta is in charge of directing these live performances. 

iET

Musician, singer songwriter, and creator iET lives in Schiedam together with her daughter and her partner Budy Mokoginta. Her first EP – Kitchen Recordings Series 1 – was released in 2011. Soon after that followed Kitchen Recordings Series 2 and a third album, So Unreal, which was released worldwide on vinyl in 2013. For the album Clarity (2016), iET composed a large number of songs on the piano, an instrument she had never played before. Together with Budy Mokoginta and others, iET wrote the music for the performance INSIDE OUT by the dance company Conny Janssen Danst. In 2017 she reworked this score for the opening of the exhibition Conny Janssen Danst 25 at the Kunsthal. During the difficult period of being housebound, iET became acquainted with her neighbour Sjoerd Koopmans, who designs under the name Rich Dust. This resulted in a joint desire to visualise the world and music of iET in the exhibition Hunger. iET’s music album of the same title came out one track at a time but will be released in its entirety simultaneously with the start of the exhibition.
