Three interactive tables in the education LAB contain a wide selection of digital images, stimulating the students with questions, research assignments and puzzles. The central question is: “What am I seeing?”
The main objective is the development of critical skills. After the students have cracked the images, they are given the opportunity to share and discuss their findings in the education LAB.
To prepare for, and following, a visit to the Kunsthal, the free teaching modules on www.beeldkraken.nl can be used in the classroom. These user-friendly teaching modules are suitable for a variety of subjects, such as Dutch, social studies, history and CKV (cultural and artistic studies).
WHO CAN PARTICIPATE IN CRACKING THE IMAGE?
Cracking the Image is meant for older primary school pupils and all secondary education students. On average a visit to the education LAB ‘Cracking the Image. You don’t know what you’re seeing’ will take 60 minutes.

Kunsthal Rotterdam opening hours: Tuesdays through Saturdays 10:00 – 17:00 hrs, Sundays and public holidays 11:00 – 17:00 hrs. Entrance for students under the age of 18 is free. Teachers, supervisors and students from the age of 18 pay the regular entrance fee. The Museum Card or Rotterdam Pass are valid.
ATLAS VAN STOLK
The founder of the Atlas Van Stolk was the Rotterdam wood merchant Abraham van Stolk. In 1835, driven by his passion for Dutch history, he started to collect image material offering a broader perspective on contemporary society. The collection was continued by many generations of the Van Stolk family. It currently contains over a quarter of a million images, and is continuing to grow to this day. By now, the Atlas has become one of the largest image collections in the Netherlands.

Yes, you need to book a ticket with a start time in advance. This also applies if you have a Museum card, Rotterdam pass, or VriendenLoterij VIP Card. This way, you are guaranteed admission and we can ensure that your visit is as pleasant as possible. Book your start time.
Yes, with an online ticket, you can visit all the exhibitions that are on display on the date of your visit. You can also stay as long as you like. You are welcome at the Kunsthal from your designated start time until closing time. Book your start time.
