We are delighted that Wende is giving an exclusive concert for our guests specially for the 25th anniversary celebrations of the Kunsthal. You can enjoy this performance on Wednesday 1 November in the eye-catching Kunsthal Auditorium.

Whether with pop, electro, classical, contemporary music or even film, Wende always manages to make an impression on her public. She wants to tell stories with her own voice and energy, whatever the genre may be. In the last few years Wende has become one of the most versatile and celebrated artistes and performers in the Netherlands. She has given guest performances in the Kunsthal on several occasions, including the Rotterdam Museum Night.

For ‘Mens’ she approached such famous writers as Dimitri Verhulst, Arnon Grunberg and Typhoon to collaborate with her on writing new stories and songs about what it means to be alive today. It is a time in which we seem more than ever to be thrown back on ourselves, our fears and the question of how we should relate to what is going on around us. Wende and these writers went in search of the beauty, ugliness, danger and wonder of being alive. She sings about her own fear, loneliness, searching, love, country and city.

The result is an intimate, surprising and confrontational journey through a life full of miniature narratives. With this performance Wende returns in a modern way to her roots in chanson, a song genre that is more able than any other to touch the core of being alive.

The director is Marcus Azzini, artistic director of Theatergroep Oostpool. The design of the performance is by the internationally acclaimed designer Chloe Lamford from London. For more information about Wende’s tour go to www.wende.nu
