Toon Hermans (1916 - 2000) did not call himself a painter, considering himself rather as an artist."You see the colours in a good song, and you can hear the sound of a beautiful painting," was one of his apposite comments.
It was not until publication of the first large monograph about his painting works that Hermans came to the public eye as a painter.
For the most part the Kunsthal exhibition comprises previously unexhibited works from the artist's estate.
