Discover the Kunsthal’s wide variety of exhibitions, or its extraordinary architecture. Students in higher education can either visit the Kunsthal independently or participate in a guided tour. These guided tours are always tailored to the current exhibition programme.

You can book the following guided tours:

  • Guided tour of an exhibition in HALL 1 of HALL 2 in Dutch, English, or German (by arrangement). Price: €75,00 for a group of up to 15 people. The guided tour will take about 60 minutes. 
  • Architecture Tour: Discover the unique Kunsthal building in Dutch or English. Cost: €75 for a group of up to 15 people. The tour lasts approximately 60 minutes

Price

Students up to the age of 18 can visit the Kunsthal for free (upon showing valid ID). From the age of 19, a student discount applies. There is no admission charge for supervisors. The current admission charges can be found here.

ArtHopping: right through the Kunsthal
available all year around

During ArtHopping, a guide will lead you past various artworks and objects at a high pace, criss-crossing through the Kunsthal, while at the same time encouraging you to look differently at the extraordinary building. In only an hour, this allows you to find out more about several of our exhibitions as well as the Kunsthal building. GUIDED TOUR HALL 2 | Thomas J Price. Matter of Place 

5 OCTOBER 2024 UNTIL 2 FEBRUARY 2025

Discover the first solo exhibition in the Netherlands of the British artist Thomas J Price (1981, London). With multidisciplinary work, spanning sculpture, performance, photography, and animation, Price constantly bends the conventions of material, scale, and presentation. The artist focuses on themes of representation and humanism and how we relate and respond to power structures within society. In this large-scale retrospective, the Kunsthal will be showing a wide variety of works from Price’s two-decade-spanning career: from the early performance ‘Licked’ (2001) to recent sculptures such as ‘A Place Beyond’ (2022).

Immerse youselve in the world of the Diva at the Kunsthal. The exhibition DIVA celebrates the unprecedented power and boundless feminine creativity of iconic performers who have been challenging the status quo with their bravura and ambition. With over sixty looks and costume designs by world-famous designers – worn by people like Maria Callas, Josephine Baker, Marilyn Monroe, Tina Turner, Shirley Bassey, Cher, Elton John, Rihanna, Lady Gaga, Björk, and Billie Eilish –, the exhibition shows how these divas have used their performing arts to push boundaries and make a lasting impact on society.

Guided tour HALL 2 | Haegue Yang. Leap Year

28 February until 31 August 2025
Explore the multisensory world of the leading, South Korean artist Haegue Yang (1971, Seoul) at the Kunsthal. The exhibition Leap Year presents a comprehensive overview of Yang’s thirty-year career, showcasing a wide range installations, sculptures, videos, and audio works. She transforms everyday objects like drying racks into anthropomorphic creatures in acrobatic poses, animates aluminium blinds with theatrical lights, and creates immersive auditory experiences with resonating metal bells.

Guided Tour HALL 1 | Max Pechstein. Expression of Harmony

28 March until 15 June 2025
Dive into the expressionist work of German painter Max Pechstein (1881–1955). Influenced by post-impressionist artists such as Van Gogh and Gauguin, Pechstein’s works reflect his longing for freedom, a deep connection with nature, and a vision for a better world. His vibrant and dynamic compositions capture an era of profound change in European society and have had a lasting impact on modern art. Through more than fifty paintings, as well as drawings, woodcuts, photographs, and personal objects from the artist, can explore his extensive oeuvre and gain insight into the personal life of Max Pechstein at the Kunsthal.

MASTERCLASSES

Every year Kunsthal Rotterdam presents a series of inspiring masterclasses by remarkable artists. Guests have included photographer Peter Lindbergh, architect Rem Koolhaas, fashion artists Viktor&Rolf, trend forecaster Lidewij Edelkoort and Dj Isis. Keep an eye on the activity calendar to stay up to date for upcoming masterclasses.

ArtCouples

During KunstKoppels (ArtCouples) you will meet someone in the Kunsthal who is completely new and unknown to you. Someone from another generation, or with a different background or lifestyle. After an introduction you will dive into the total installation Acknowledge Rebuild. KunstKoppels is organized in cooperation with Rotterdam Heroes, a youth project of Unie Van Vrijwilligers Rotterdam (UVV). Students can participate for free. Keep an eye on the activities calender here when the next edition will take place. The main language during this event is Dutch.
