The Rotterdam-based online hip hop platform Hiphop In Je Smoel (HIJS) is celebrating its 25th anniversary and invites everyone to join in the celebration of hip hop culture at the Kunsthal. For a quarter of a century, HIJS has been a dynamic platform focused on the current state of Dutch hip hop culture. Over the years, HIJS has taken on many forms: from a hip hop book publisher and party organizer to a spoken word platform, street art curator, production house, and educator. This versatility forms the foundation for Friday Night LIVE x Hiphop In Je Smoel!

Expo: Gina Saad & Roel Heeroma

17:00-22:00 uur
Gina Saad presents ‘De verhalen van ogen’, inspired by the exhibition Thomas J Price. Matter of Place. "In his work, J. Price plays with the influence of eyes on the emotion of an artwork. Sometimes he removes the eyes to avoid emotion, while at other times, he uses them to evoke empathy. Hip-hop is all about emotion, something that HIJS has been capturing and sharing for 25 years." With her photo series, Gina aims to capture the emotions of hip-hop artists. "These photos offer HIJS readers a glimpse into the expression, showmanship, and personalities of the artists."

Roel Heeroma: “As a big hip-hop fan, there’s not a day that goes by without me listening to - mainly Dutch - hip-hop. During my internship, I often find myself in situations where I witness artists in moments when they don’t have to fulfill their public role. This really resonated with me, as they’re just people too. In a series of portraits, mainly taken backstage at venues, I want to show the individuals behind the artists – the ordinary person, much like Thomas J Price does in his exhibition.”
